How our free shed matching service works

How we get paid

The Shed Guru is a free service for anyone building a shed in Tasmania. With 15 years experience in the shed industry, we have seen what can go wrong in a shed build without having the right advice. So, how do we get paid? Just like other comparison websites, we take a small commission from the shed suppliers and installers when you choose to work with them through our recommendations. We rigorously vet all our partners to ensure they meet high standards of quality and reliability to make sure you get the best value and quality for your investment. Let us help you turn your dream shed into a reality.

Our vetting process

Before we match you with a shed builder, we check the following on every company in our Tasmanian network:

  • ABN and business registration: We confirm the company is a registered Australian business.
  • Building services licence: Where the supplier performs notifiable or permit work, we confirm they hold the relevant licence under the Occupational Licensing Act 2005, as required by the Building Act 2016.
  • Tasmanian track record: We check how long the supplier has been operating in Tasmania.
  • Tasmanian delivery and install capability: We check the supplier can deliver and install in the region you’re building, including rural and regional areas.
  • Customer references: Where available, we seek feedback from past Tasmanian customers about their experience with the supplier.
  • Network exclusivity: We don’t accept every supplier who asks to join. Suppliers we can’t verify, or who don’t meet our standards, don’t get added to the network.
  • Ongoing feedback loop: We follow up with customers after the introduction so we know how each supplier is performing. Suppliers who don’t meet expectations are removed from the network.

Backed by 15 years of industry experience, we know the Tasmanian shed market and the suppliers worth recommending.

  • Farm and rural sheds: Hay sheds, machinery sheds, and stables for properties across Tasmania.

  • Workshops and hobby sheds: Purpose-built spaces for trades, makers, and weekend projects.
  • Commercial and industrial sheds: Larger structures for businesses, warehousing, and storage.

Whatever type of shed you’re planning, we’ll match you with a Tasmanian builder who specialises in that style and works in your area.

Yes. The Shed Guru is free to use. We receive a small commission from shed builder companies when you choose to work with them. ABN: 50 651 461 504.

We check business credentials, insurance, Tasmanian track record, product quality, customer feedback, and warranty before adding any supplier to our network.

We cover Tasmania state-wide, including Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, and surrounding regional towns.

It depends on the category of work. Tasmania classifies building work as Low Risk, Notifiable, or Permit Work under the Building Act 2016. Planning approval through your local council is assessed separately from building approval. Your matched supplier can guide you on what applies to your site.

We work across garden sheds, garages, farm sheds, workshops, barndominiums, and full turn-key builds. If it's a shed project in Tasmania, we can match you with a suitable supplier.

Yes. Our Design Your Shed option lets you spec your shed using our designer app before connecting with a supplier. If you prefer expert guidance from the start, the Turn-Key Build option suits buyers who want the project managed end to end.

A kit shed is supplied as components for you or a builder to assemble. A turn-key build is a complete project including site prep, slab, construction, and finishing, managed by the supplier. Which option suits you depends on your budget, timeframe, and how hands-on you want to be.

Timeframes vary by shed type, site conditions, supplier lead times, and whether the work requires planning or building approval. Once you've enquired, your matched supplier will give you a realistic timeline for your specific project.

Once you've filled in our Turn-Key form, our local team reviews your details and matches you with the right shed builder. Your matched builder usually gets in touch with a tailored quote within two business days.
